Thinking outside the grid

Molly Holzschlag wrote a thought-provoking design article that put me in the mood to comment on an article for the first time in quite a long while. I agree with Molly's basic premise, web design can be more exciting if designers drop old table-based layout conventions and look to design outside the grid more.

Congratulations to the Gallery Team on the final release of Gallery 2! Gallery 2 is the culmination of thousands of hours of developers' work over the past 3 years and is the best online photo album manager available today.

Gallery Gang in NYC

I've just returned from one of the most rewarding experiences I've had in recent memory. Several of the core Gallery developers and support crew met up in New York City. For most of the gang, this was the first time they had heard each other's voices and seen each other's faces in person. These guys have become the best of friends by chatting online daily while they work on Gallery, one of the greatest open source web applications available.

Initial thoughts on podcasting

I have to admit that although podcasting has piqued my interest, it took Apple's adding a podcast directory to iTunes 4.9 for me to give it a try.

The podcast directory in iTunes has plenty of content to choose from. Everything is nicely organized by category and subcategory, and there are plenty o' categories to browse. Business, comedy, art, news, music, it's all there and it'll take quite some time to sift through all of the content available.

WordPress theme for 2 tablespoons

I've found that creating themes for WordPress is a straightforward process. Since this is a theme I'd like to have remain unique to this site, I'm not offering up the source code. I will, however, try to share a bit about the process I went through to integrate WordPress with 2tbsp.com.
