eBooks, Academic Publishing, and Drupal
I recently completed development of a web site for Anne Fitzpatrick, a friend and scholar. Anne studies and works on international collaborations in computing, American and Russian nuclear weapons, and science and technology policy and culture.
For the past eight years, Anne and her colleagues have been busy translating and editing Pioneers of Soviet Computing by Boris Malinovsky. University and commercial publishing companies refused to publish their work, so Anne decided to self-publish the work as an eBook.
Amy and did quite a bit of work formatting and converting several MS Word documents to well-formed XHTML. We proceeded to insert the XHTML into a Drupal book format. The entire contents of the book are available in several chapters for your browsing enjoyment or, the book is available in its entirety as a PDF document.
The text is a very interesting history of the evolution of computing in isolation in the former Soviet Union. Please consider donating to the project or purchasing the entire book in PDF format if you find the work useful or interesting.
